Basic Terran Marine & Marauder Micro Tips - Starcraft 2

When Should You Micro Your Units?

Micro isn"t always necessary, but in almost every battle you"ll be able to lose a few less or kill a few more units by microing well. You should always focus on micro when your unit out ranges the opponent. For instance, you can micro very effectively against melee units like zerglings and zealots with marines and marauders.

If you split your marines into two groups against melee units you"ll force them to run after one or the other. This way one group can run and fire while the other group can stand their ground and do 100% damage.

If you"re going to train any marauders at all, you should immediately buy the concussive shell upgrade at your barracks tech lab. This will make every marauder shot slow down the target, which makes kiting much easier.

Remember that stim packs increase run speed as well, so use this to your advantage. Marauders with stim are ridiculously fast and can even kite speed zerglings and charge zealots rather effectively.

You probably alread know that a hard counter for enemy roaches is marauders. What you may not have thought about though, is the marauder"s ability to kite roaches. Marauders have a range of 6, while roaches can only shoot at a range of 3. You can kite roaches just like melee units, just try to stay at the edge of their range and you"ll suffer far fewer losses.
