Deer Lake Photoshoot with Mother and Son
I decided early on that I was only going to take one exterior flash with a stand and a shoot through umbrella, this gave me the ability to move lighting quickly and still have an even fill flash to fill in the shadows. I did my best to kept the sun behind my guests to create a rim light which caused a separation on their shoulders and hair.We had a great time on this shoot doing all kinds of fun things like swinging on the swing set and climbing on the jungle gym. The Mother had brought arm fulls of things to do! They played t-ball for the first time, the boy was so excited to hit the ball and he was so precious when he would stack the balls and try to hit both balls at the same time. The best part of the shoot was when Mother and son spread out a blanket under a tree and had a snack. The day was getting hotter and it was a great time to relax and read a story. This was when I was able to capture the best photos of Mother and son in close proximity acting naturally!
The light under the canopy was soft and diffused, with the flash on 1/2 power it filled in the shadows on their faces while leaving the background perfectly exposed. It was a beautiful day, bright blue sky"s and the clouds were nice and fluffy. Each picture that I took captured the love and innocence of child hood Mother and son had lots of giggles while blowing bubbles on the freshly cut green grass.
After 45 minutes into the shoot the son was starting to get board and frustrated with having a camera in his face. So we decided to do our last location down by the water where I was able to take some fantastic shots in high key while holding on to the beautiful greens of the lillypads in the lake. Everyone had a great time, The son was tuckered out and ready for a nap, Mom had a look at the photos on my laptop and was very excited with the quality of photos taken. In the end I took the RAW files home and did some light retouching and when the family saw the finnished photos they were very happy with the photos they received.
