Learn How To Play Klaverjassen
There are 32 cards used for Klaverjassen, from 7 to the ace of each color. The goal of the game is to have the highest score at the end of 16 rounds of the game. The game is played in pairs; there are four players, so there are two teams. In tournaments and competitions each player will be paired with each of the other three players, so there will be 3 rounds of 16 hands played. The goal for each hand is to take more than half of the points, basically to take more than the other team. The total number of points is 152 or 162 because 10 points are given to the pair that gets the last hand. So the team that chose a trump suit needs to take 82 points in order to score, in that case both teams score as much as they took. If the team that chose a trump suit didn"t take more than half than the opposite team gets all the points. In Klaverjassen players can also score by taking bonus points.The play goes like this, once the hand has been dealt and the trump chosen the player on the dealers left start the play. He can start with whatever card he wants; the other players must follow that suit, if they don"t have that suit they need to respond with a trump card. But here is the tricky part, when replying with a card of any other suit, in case you don"t have the drawn suit, you must reply with the highest trump you have, if you don"t have a trump suit then you can reply with whatever color or card you wish. Unlike Hartenjagen or similar trick playing card games, under trumping is not allowed.
That is almost everything you need to know about Klaverjassen, the rest is to know which card to go for in this easy game. For trump cards the values are as followed:
Jack=20, Nine=14, Ace=11, Ten=10, King=4, Queen=3, Eight and Seven are worth nothing.
For other cards:
