Yudu Screen Printing System: Creative Screen Printing

One of today"s parental challenges is finding constructive creative project for their children that does not involve some sort of computerized device.   If you begin a sentence with "When I was growing up", you get the immediate rolling of the eyes and know you are being tuned out.   Really though, when I was growing up, we had brain games like Monopoly, books and creative projects given to us by school.  Regardless of how much extra kids today have for entertainment, you can only do the same stuff so many times before it becomes boring, especially when there"s no creativity involved.  It"s even worse because I won"t let them watch TV all day or text their friends in never ending conversations.

I was really surprised when my daughter first pointed out the YUDU Screen Printing System on an As Seen On TV promo.  When I saw it the second time, I thought it might be a great way for her to be creative while making or decorating items that would be fun to wear, use or give to friends.  I also thought that it would give me the opportunity to spend some quality time with her without appearing to be intrusive.  When they get to be a certain age, hanging with parents is definitely taboo.  So, when I said we"d try it ($33. plus shipping), I was temporarily a hero!

YUDU Creativity

When the YUDU arrived, I was almost overwhelmed with all the extras that came with it.  But, the instructional DVD and written directions soon helped everything fall into place in a logical fashion.  The YUDU came with enough materials to keep us transferring designs to many different types of surfaces for a long time!  In case you"re not familiar with Screen Printing, it"s a process by which you transfer designs or artwork from "screens" on to most any surface you choose. You can creatively transfer on to tee shirts, posters, flyers, clothing and more.  And with the YUDU Machine, clean-up is quick and easy.  You used to have to go to a professional print shop to get this type of work done, but not any more.

Our first project was to do a transfer on the tee shirt that came with the order.  If we were going to mess something up, we"d rather not use one of her favorite shirts as our first project.  It came out really good, much better than I expected in fact.  So, we took one of her favorite shirts and did our first transfer, a horse of course!  We were getting the hang of it because it came out better than the first one, so we did a transfer onto her jeans next.  Now, that she"s feeling more comfortable with the system, she"s got her friends coming over to do screening on their clothes.  They"ve taken over the kitchen, but at least I know she"s in the house with her friends and involved with something constructive.  The next thing we"ll tackle is transferring designs on to posters for school projects.

So, I wound up completing the purchase for around $300.  The YUDU Screen Printing System wasn"t in the budget, that"s for sure.  But, my daughter"s gotten totally involved with some great projects; she"s enjoying being creative instead of watching TV or on the phone.  That"s worth a bunch!
